A Menu in WordPress helps visitors navigate your website by displaying links to pages, posts, categories, or custom URLs.
Method 1: Using the Navigation Menus (Classic Themes)
Step 1: Log in to the WordPress Dashboard
- Open your WordPress Admin Panel.
- Enter your username and password.
Step 2: Open the Menu Settings
- Go to Appearance → Menus.
Step 3: Create a New Menu
- Click Create a New Menu.
- Enter a Menu Name (e.g., Main Menu).
- Click Create Menu.
Step 4: Add Menu Items
From the left panel, select the items you want to include:
- Pages (Home, About, Contact)
- Posts
- Categories
- Custom Links
Click Add to Menu.
Step 5: Arrange Menu Items
- Drag and drop menu items to change their order.
- To create a submenu (dropdown menu), drag an item slightly to the right beneath another item.

Step 6: Assign the Menu Location
Under Menu Settings or Display Location, choose where the menu should appear:
- Primary Menu
- Header Menu
- Top Menu

Step 7: Save the Menu
Click Save Menu.
Your navigation menu is now live.
Method 2: Using the Site Editor (Block Themes)
For block themes (such as Twenty Twenty-Four or Twenty Twenty-Five):
- Go to Appearance → Editor.
- Open the Header template.
- Select the Navigation block.
- Click + to add:
- Pages
- Posts
- Categories
- Custom Links
- Rearrange items by dragging them.
- Click Save.
Edit a Menu
- Go to Appearance → Menus.
- Select the menu.
- Add, remove, or rearrange items.
- Click Save Menu.
Delete a Menu Item
- Go to Appearance → Menus.
- Click the arrow beside the menu item.
- Click Remove.
- Click Save Menu.
Delete an Entire Menu
- Go to Appearance → Menus.
- Select the menu.
- Click Delete Menu.
- Confirm the deletion.
Types of Menu Items
- Pages – Home, About, Contact
- Posts – Individual blog posts
- Categories – Blog categories
- Custom Links – External or internal URLs
- Tags – Tag archive pages (if enabled)
